Business meets with the management of NPC Ukrenergo

07/ 04/ 2025
On 4 April, member companies of the European Business Association held a meeting with Oleksii Brekht, Acting Chairman of the Management Board of NPC Ukrenergo, and representatives of the company’s top management. Participants discussed the outcomes of the heating season, opportunities for companies with their own power generation to enter the electricity market, and the advantages of commercial electricity imports for industry and business. Stable electricity supply is critically important for industry. At the same time, numerous Russian attacks on Ukraine’s power system pose a risk of forced outages. Oleksii Brekht provided detailed information to business representatives on the options for avoiding such restrictions — in particular, by importing over 60% of a company’s electricity consumption. Currently, the power system remains balanced. Thanks to sufficient equipment reserves, the dedicated efforts of energy professionals, and effective cooperation with international financial institutions, the heating season was successfully completed with minimal restrictions — including for the general population. In the absence of new strikes, Ukrenergo forecasts that this stability will continue. However, it is worth noting that, unlike last year, this year’s hydropower resources are expected to be lower due to a snowless winter and an almost complete absence of spring floods. The meeting also addressed investment opportunities for non-energy businesses in the energy sector — particularly through participation in Ukrenergo’s special auctions for the long-term provision of ancillary services. The company plans to hold the next such auction in the near future. Oleksii Brekht. Acting Chairman of the Management Board of NPC Ukrenergo. Deepening mutual cooperation is beneficial both for Ukrenergo and for the business community. Many opportunities remain untapped simply due to a lack of information or experience. This includes backup power facilities that companies have installed on their premises. These systems are currently idle, though they could generate income for their owners and support the Ukrainian power grid. To do this, businesses must learn how to operate in the electricity market. And we, for our part, are ready to assist at every stage — from advice on connecting to the grid to recommendations on the most effective model for market participation. The energy sector is one where public-private partnerships can bring real benefits to all parties. Svitlana Mykhailovska. Deputy Director of the European Business Association. Regular meetings with Ukrenergo and timely dialogue are extremely important for businesses, and we hope this practice continues. The business community is grateful to the company for its successful handling of the heating season under such challenging conditions. Nevertheless, there is still much work ahead, and we look forward to effective cooperation among all energy market players.
