Business met with the Head of the State Agency for Restoration and Infrastructure Development

09/ 05/ 2024
Yesterday, the EBA Ukraine Recovery Committee met with Mustafa Nayyem, Head of the State Agency for Restoration and Infrastructure Development. They discussed the reconstruction of Ukraine - key challenges, including financing, as well as the participation of Ukrainian and international business in the countrys recovery. Mr. Nayyem confirmed that the budget that Ukraine currently has is barely enough to cover the most urgent needs, such as salaries and proper maintenance of critical infrastructure. He emphasized that the team is working to raise funds from international partners and donors. There are likely to be two main types of financing: loans and export financing. Export financing implies that the country supports its own producers, so it is important to find global partners for the recovery now. Any advice for businesses now? “My advice to businesses, officials, and civil society is to study hard,” Mustafa says. “If a company is engaged in construction, send employees to training to learn how to design according to international standards. This will help to be involved in the process of rebuilding Ukraine more effectively and efficiently. After all, with foreign funds will come foreign companies that want to work with ambitious reconstruction projects in post-war Ukraine. The head of the State Agency for Restoration and Infrastructure Development noted that he does not currently see a great thirst for Ukrainian business to work with the state. The Agencys team has already managed to achieve changes and offer new terms of cooperation to the social construction market, doubling the number of tender proposals. There is still a lot of work to be done, says Mustafa Nayyem, and it should be a joint effort of the state, business, and local communities. As for international companies, they are wary of the risks associated with the war, as well as the failure of the judicial system. The state must do its homework, Nayyem believes, and deal with the risks it can. Business, in turn, should demonstrate by example that it is possible to work effectively and profitably in Ukraine. Should there be areas where employees are protected from mobilization? He answers with confidence that yes. How can businesses get involved, where to look for projects to restore Ukraine? Two platforms that should be bookmarked in your browser are @DREAM and @Prozorro. In the comments, please leave a page with comprehensive information on working with the projects of the State Agency for Restoration and Infrastructure Development, which also contains links to these two platforms. We thank Mustafa Nayyem for the meeting. We believe that more such meetings are ahead, as well as effective interaction of the entire society for the sake of Ukraines recovery.
