Business is grateful for the declassification of geological information

30/ 06/ 2025
The Security Service of Ukraine has approved amendments to the Register of Information Constituting State Secrets, lifting the “secret” classification from most types of geological data. The European Business Association welcomes this critically important step towards attracting investment into subsoil use, as it creates the groundwork for transparent and efficient sector development and, above all, simplifies access to geological information. It is worth recalling that the ЕВА has repeatedly drawn attention to the issue of restricted access to geological data, which has long hindered the sector’s growth. Furthermore, 66% of respondents in the 2024 study “Subsoil Use in the Context of War and Development Prospects”, conducted by the EBA Subsoil Use Committee, stated that removing the “secret” and “for official use only” classifications from geological data would foster investment in the subsoil sector, particularly under martial law. This decision is a continuation of the broader deregulatory and transparency agenda, aligned with the best international practices. We sincerely thank the Ministry of Economy, the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources, and the Security Service of Ukraine for this important step. The business community greatly values their openness to dialogue and constructive cooperation aimed at creating an investor-friendly environment.
