Business is requesting permission to use Wi-Fi 6E in Ukraine

25/ 06/ 2024
The Consumer Electronics Committee of the European Business Association has appealed to the Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine for Innovation, Education, Science and Technology Development, Mykhailo Fedorov, and other relevant government bodies regarding the need to implement Wi-Fi 6E radio technology (5945-6425 MHz) in Ukraine. Currently, according to information from EBAs member companies, most new modern equipment, such as routers, laptops, smartphones, TVs, audio systems, etc., is produced with support for Wi-Fi 6E radio technology, which, unfortunately, is not included in the Plan for the Allocation and Use of the Radio Frequency Spectrum in Ukraine. Accordingly, representatives of law-abiding businesses do not have the opportunity to certify it in Ukraine, which in turn makes it impossible to legally supply such products to Ukraine. This, in turn, significantly limits the use of modern equipment in Ukraine and deprives consumers of access to the latest technologies. It is worth noting separately that Ukraine is one of the few countries that has not yet allowed the use of this technology. According to experts of the EBAs Committee, Wi-Fi 6E radio technology was adopted back in 2020, and the global production of equipment with Wi-Fi 6E support was started in 2021. According to the Wi-Fi Alliance, Wi-Fi 6E radio technology is allowed for use in the EU and most countries of the world, with the exception of some African countries. Moreover, according to experts of the Associations Committee, some countries have already started discussing the possibility of introducing the next Wi-Fi 7 technology (6425-7125 MHz). Therefore, the EBA asks the relevant state bodies to initiate amendments to the Plan, in particular, to supplement it with Wi-Fi 6E radio technology, which will allow harmonizing the use of radio frequency resources with the EU and unblock the supply of modern equipment to Ukraine.
