Business awaits finalisation of the draft law “On the Timber Market”

08/ 09/ 2025
On 5 September, the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Economic Development decided to recommend that Parliament approve at first reading the updated draft law “On the Timber Market” No.13227 of 29 April 2025. The purpose of the draft law is to regulate the functioning of the timber market, relations connected with the sale of timber, and the use of forest resources. Experts of the European Business Association express their gratitude for the tremendous work carried out by the Parliamentary Committee on Economic Development on the draft law, as well as for all the activities that involved the business community. However, businesses expect the prompt publication of the final version of the draft law, to enable thorough analysis by industry associations and business representatives. The business community hopes that the updated version of the draft law will not contain provisions that could create unequal conditions for Ukrainian processors or pose risks to the functioning of the woodworking industry as a whole. At the same time, the business community calls for swift steps to finalise and adopt the draft law in its entirety, as it will foster the development of the woodworking sector, which is crucial for the effective functioning of the timber market. Moreover, EBA experts draw attention to the urgent need to extend the moratorium on timber exports, which expires this autumn, taking into account the domestic woodworking industry’s focus on exporting finished products.
