Business discusses current energy sector issues with Ukrenergo

27/ 05/ 2026
On 26 May, the Energy Committee of the European Business Association held an extended meeting with Vitalii Zaichenko and the management team of NPC Ukrenergo. The Head of Ukrenergo shared with participating companies an assessment of the current state of the power system and forecasts for the summer and autumn-winter periods. At present, the situation in the power system remains stable despite significant damage to power plants and electricity transmission and distribution networks. Taking into account import capacities, the summer period is expected to pass without prolonged restrictions for consumers. However, in the event of further attacks on the energy system, the situation may change, as the nature and scale of potential damage cannot be predicted. One of Ukrenergo’s key current priorities is the restoration and protection of energy infrastructure facilities. The power system continues to evolve and diversify, including through strengthening equipment protection measures. Distributed generation is also being developed, particularly gas-fired generation, solar energy, and energy storage facilities. Alongside restoration and physical protection efforts, work is underway to modernise the grid, eliminate bottlenecks in the energy network, and develop interconnectors. The parties also discussed the rationale for revising NPC Ukrenergo’s tariffs, certain issues related to the development of renewable energy sources, export/import transmission capacity, market coupling, and other topics. The Association expresses its gratitude to the Head and team of Ukrenergo for maintaining a systematic dialogue with the business community and discussing issues that remain in focus for companies in the energy sector.
