10/ 08/ 2020
SoftServe Сharity Fund “Open Eyes” in cooperation with the Kharkiv Regional Childrens Clinical Hospital doctors have equipped the Positive Room. The project was realized due to charitable donations from SoftServe company, its associates and other committed and involved people. Project partners: Bureau Kuhlman and designer Anastasia Maslova. “Our Fund helps to equip public hospitals with unique spaces for rapid rehabilitation and psychological well-being improvement of young patients who are treating in the hospital for a long-term time or while fighting against disease. The new space gives an opportunity for little patients to catch up with the school curriculum with teachers; to stay in an alternative to the hospital rooms place, play games, relax, read books, watch educational films and cartoons. Just to stay a child, not a patient,” said Roman Perepichka, project coordinator of the Сharity Fund “Open Eyes”. Every year, almost 11,000 children from the Kharkiv district, Kharkiv city, Donetsk, Luhansk districts are admitted to the Kharkiv Regional Childrens Clinical Hospital. Children with the most serious, life-threatening illnesses receive treatment here: congenital malformations, congenital heart defects, cirrhosis, Crohns disease, Gaucher disease, multiple sclerosis, orphan diseasesс, etc. During the therapy in difficult cases, which lasts from 2 to 9 months, children do not have the opportunity to attend school, staying isolated from their friends and family, far away from the happy childhood days. “Volunteers from various non-governmental organizations in cooperation with students from Kharkiv National Medical University used to organize recreation activities for young patients at the hospital. Currently, since the Positive Room opening, about 30-40 children per day visit the room. The children are mainly from gastroenterology, сardiology or neurology departments,” says Georgiy Muratov, Chief Doctor of Kharkiv Regional Clinical Hospital. The Positive Room is a bright, comfortable and functional space created for children undergoing long-term treatment in hospitals. There are 4 areas in the room: creative, playground, reading and education with specially selected childrens toys and materials that prevent children from staying one on one with the disease and feeling isolated. The SoftServes Сharity Fund “Open Eyes” Positive Room project was launched in October 2017. The first Positive Room the Fund equipped was at the Wroclaw Childrens Clinic for Endocrinology and Diabetes (Poland) in cooperation with Pozytywne.com and partners. The idea to create such a room came from the SoftServe development center in Wroclaw. The SoftServe employees addressed the fund, willing to help with this request. After successful project implementation, the Fund decided to implement it in Ukraine. Since then 4 such rooms have been constructed. Сharity Fund “Open Eyes” is working on the creation of a similar Room in Lviv. Fundraising for Positive Rooms in Kyiv and Chernivtsi is planned this year.
