Baker McKenzie and the EBRD present the results of the first stage of the Ukrainian construction sector regulatory reform project

  Kyiv, Ukraine, 3 November 2020 — The Kyiv office of Baker McKenzie in cooperation with the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) presented the results of the first stage of the project aimed to support construction sector regulatory reform and the wider use of FIDIC contracts in Ukraine at a web conference held on 27 October 2020. The one-day web conference gathered high-profile speakers, including top officials from the EBRD in Kyiv and London, the FIDIC CEO, the head of the State Agency of Automobile Roads of Ukraine and top government officials from the Ministry of Infrastructure of Ukraine, the Ministry of Communities and Territories Development of Ukraine, the Ukrainian Parliament, etc. Baker McKenzie presented the results of the first stage of the project on construction sector regulatory reform in Ukraine, including the roadmap for aligning the construction sector regulations with the best international practices and promoting the wider use of FIDIC contracts. The participants of the conference shared their views on construction sector reform and the required regulatory changes. Presenting the project, Lina Nemchenko, partner of Baker McKenzie, noted, Reforms in the construction sector are most critical for attracting foreign investments to Ukraine, and we appreciate the support provided in this respect by such international institutions as EBRD and FIDIC. In her speech, Annemarie Straathof, EBRD Vice President, and Risk and Compliance and Chief Risk Officer, stressed: I am confident that this reform and many more to be followed are the main tools for bringing Ukraine and the EU closer together, and promoting deeper political ties, stronger economic links and respect for common values. I would like to reaffirm the EBRDs strong support for the reforming of the construction sector and look forward to further efforts to foster the transition to a market economy across all sectors of the economy.
