Baker McKenzie and the Institute of International Relations Have Agreed to Cooperate in the Training of International Lawyers

  Kyiv, Ukraine, 25 September 2018 – The Kyiv office of Baker McKenzie and the Institute of International Relations of Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv have agreed to cooperate in the training of future international lawyers.   The memorandum of cooperation was signed on 19 September 2018 by Valerii Kopiika, Director of the Institute of International Relations, and Serhiy Chorny, Managing Partner of Baker McKenzies Kyiv office.   Baker McKenzies Ukrainian and foreign lawyers will be involved in teaching specific courses for bachelors and masters degree programs and will take part in joint events to develop the practical skills of future lawyers. The best students will be offered a scholarship and an internship at Baker McKenzies office in Kyiv.   When signing the memorandum of cooperation, Valerii Kopiika noted the importance of a symbiosis of theory and practice in the training of qualified international lawyers: It is cooperation with leading companies and involvement of their experts in conducting lectures, master classes and case studies that help us train qualified lawyers who will be able to start working right away. We appreciate our cooperation with Baker McKenzie and believe that this will play an important role in combining theory and practice for training highly qualified international lawyers.   Commenting on the signing of the memorandum of cooperation, Serhiy Chorny noted the leading role of the Institute in the training of international lawyers in Ukraine. Graduates of the Institute formed the core team of Baker McKenzies Kyiv office, and today, lawyers who studied at the Institute make up a significant part of Baker McKenzies professional staff in Ukraine. The administration and teachers of the Institute are committed to making the learning process more innovative and exciting for students and to preparing them for future real work, including in the area of international business operations that Baker McKenzie specializes in.
