Baker McKenzie Cooperates with National University “Kyiv Mohyla Academy” in Developing Future Lawyers
Kyiv, Ukraine, 4 June 2018 – The Kyiv Office of Baker McKenzie and the Faculty of Law of the National University Kyiv-Mohyla Academy (NaUKMA) have agreed to cooperate in the implementation and development of a Commercial Law Certificate Program.
The respective Memorandum of Cooperation was signed by Denys Azarov, Dean of NaUKMA’s Faculty of Law, and Serhiy Chorny, Managing Partner of Baker McKenzie in Ukraine, on 31 May 2018.
NaUKMA’s Faculty of Law will launch the Certificate Program within their LLM degree course in academic year 2018-2019. The Program will provide the LLM students with a high quality training and practical skills development for further work in various areas of commercial law, as well as for representation of clients in international commercial transactions.
Baker McKenzie’s lawyers will be involved in teaching specific courses and topics and will participate in improving the curriculum of the Certificate Program. The best students of the Certificate Program will be offered an internship at the Baker McKenzie’s Kyiv Office.
At the signing of the Memorandum of Cooperation, Serhiy Chorny highlighted the leading role and innovative approach of NaUKMA in developing highly qualified lawyers in Ukraine. “We wish Kyiv-Mohyla Academy to achieve such quality level in the educational process and such international recognition as Oxford and Harvard currently have. Our significant European country deserves a center of legal education of such a caliber. The introduction of modern, market-oriented Certificate Programs, including the Program in Commercial Law, is a step forward in achieving this goal. We are glad to be a part of this work. It is an honor for us to assist Kyiv-Mohyla Academy in its further development,” said Serhiy Chorny.
