07/ 03/ 2025
The European Business Association’s Committee Manager, together with representatives of member companies from the Woodworking and Furniture Committee, participated in the public report presentation of the Head of the State Forest Resources Agency of Ukraine, Viktor Smal, for the year 2024. During the presentation, the key results of the State Forest Resources Agency’s activities were outlined, including completed tasks, developed regulatory projects, conducted initiatives, and participation in relevant projects related to the implementation of state policy in the forestry and hunting sectors. Additionally, the plans for 2025 were announced. Following the report presentation, a public discussion took place on the topic “The Future of Ukrainian Forests: The European Path and Modern Challenges”, featuring three panel discussions: ▪️ Modern forestry management practices ▪️ Challenges in overcoming the consequences of Russian aggression and forest demining ▪️ Further digitalisation of the sector to complete the timber traceability chain EBA experts highlighted the high quality of the public report and presentation. At the same time, during the event, EBA experts raised the crucial issue of timber harvesting for 2025 and 2026, considering the negative trend of decreasing timber volumes. Businesses, in particular, emphasised the need to increase harvesting volumes, as domestic woodworking enterprises require raw materials to fulfil both international contracts and domestic demands. Given the high potential of Ukrainian woodworking companies, increasing timber harvesting volumes would allow for greater investment in production, higher tax contributions, and enhanced cooperation with the European Union through high-quality products.
