Logistics issues

24/ 06/ 2025
On 20 June 2025, JSC Ukrzaliznytsia officially lifted the convention-based restrictions that had, since 1 March, prohibited the use of foreign freight wagons for domestic transportation within Ukraine. Instead, a new procedure has been introduced: non-resident wagons can now be recognised as technically compatible with Ukrainian infrastructure, after which they will be allowed to operate within the country. To obtain approval, wagon owners must conclude a standard contract with Ukrzaliznytsia and submit the required technical documentation. Foreign wagon owners have 30 days from the date of the contract’s publication to complete this process. This decision follows appeals from the business community, including the European Business Association, which advocated for equal conditions in the freight transportation sector.
