  The European Business Association supports the steps taken by the State Forest Resources Agency of Ukraine to digitalise forest management systems and implement technological solutions that help ensure compliance with Regulation (EU) 2023/1115 (EUDR) regarding timber traceability. During a strategic meeting involving representatives of the business community, industry associations, and government authorities, the State Forest Agency presented updates to its digital infrastructure, including: the launch of an online system for mapping timber harvesting coordinates; integration of geolocation data into the electronic logging ticket system and the digital exporter’s portal, with the ability to export data in GeoJSON format; expanded functionality of the geoinformation system to visualise logging activities and trace timber flows. At the same time, member companies of the EBA emphasise the need to further improve data collection processes. In particular, they suggest including detailed information about tree species in logging tickets or attaching valuation documentation. Currently, logging tickets only indicate general timber types (soft hardwood, hard hardwood, or coniferous), which is insufficient to confirm the legal origin of timber in line with EUDR requirements. Actual volumes by species are contained in the Inventory and Valuation Sheet, which, according to the business community, should be made accessible alongside the logging ticket. The meeting also included a discussion on the specifics and next steps for implementing the EUDR. The European Business Association extends its gratitude to the State Forest Resources Agency for its openness to dialogue and for considering the business community’s perspective. We look forward to continued constructive cooperation to ensure proper traceability of timber origin and to support the sustainable development of Ukraine’s forestry sector.

The European Business Association supports the steps taken by the State Forest Resources Agency of Ukraine to digitalise forest management systems and implement technological solutions that help ensure compliance with Regulation (EU) 2023/1115 (EUDR) regarding timber traceability.

During a strategic meeting involving representatives of the business community, industry associations, and government authorities, the State Forest Agency presented updates to its digital infrastructure, including:

  • the launch of an online system for mapping timber harvesting coordinates;

  • integration of geolocation data into the electronic logging ticket system and the digital exporter’s portal, with the ability to export data in GeoJSON format;

  • expanded functionality of the geoinformation system to visualise logging activities and trace timber flows.
