The European Business Association welcomes the adoption of draft law No. 6490-d on the reboot of the customs service On September 17, 2024, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine passed draft law No. 6490-d, which amends the Customs Code of Ukraine and sets new standards for the functioning of customs authorities. The ЕВА actively contributed to the development of the draft law, which aims to introduce mechanisms for the objective selection of leadership, strengthen human resources, ensure independent oversight through audits, and improve the certification process of customs officers. This draft law is crucial for establishing a transparent, efficient, and modern management system for Ukraine’s customs authorities. According to the ЕВА’s experts, these changes align with international best practices and will contribute to the creation of a favorable business climate. The ЕВА expresses its gratitude to the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Finance, Tax, and Customs Policy, and to Yaroslav Zheleznіak, for their persistence in implementing this reform. However, important details remain to be seen, particularly how these changes will be implemented and whether the reform will go beyond paper and be properly and fully realized. The ЕВА stands ready to assist in and contribute to the implementation of the key innovations outlined in the reform’s concept.
