We are pleased to announce that the President has signed draft law №4554 On Amendments to Certain Legislative Acts of Ukraine Concerning the Harmonization of the Legislation of Ukraine in the Field of Childhood Nutrition with EU Legislation (Law 1822-IX) which was actively drafted and developed by the experts from the European Business Association. This Law should bring the legislation of Ukraine in the field of production and sales of baby food to the requirements of EU legislation, namely, in accordance with Regulation № 609/2013 and Regulation № 2016/127. Such changes will modernize state regulation in the field of childhood nutrition, in particular. Thus, the document abolishes outdated and ineffective norms, as well as strengthens the requirements for baby food to those that are effective in the EU. As a result, the regulation of baby food in Ukraine will be harmonized with European requirements. The changes also affect the rules of labeling baby food. The law also abolishes the requirement for declarations of conformity and compliance with technical regulations, as in the EU such rules are applied exclusively to non-food products. Besides, the list of ingredients that are prohibited for use in the production of baby food will be brought into full compliance with EU law. The new law will strengthen the protection of consumer rights, increase liability for violations of the law on baby food, set fines from 102 thousand UAH (17 minimum wages) to 150 thousand UAH (25 minimum wages) for violators. Therefore, the EBA business community welcomes the signing of the Law, which will be effective after 6 months from the publication date.   Be the first to learn about the latest EBA news with our Telegram-channel – EBAUkraine.
