Consumer Electronics

23/ 03/ 2018
The Association welcomes the adoption and publication of the Order of the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade N80 dated 21 January 2018 (Order N80), which amends the Rules for the Retail Trade of Non-food Products (the Rules), in particular, excludes outdated and burdensome labelling requirements for consumer electronics. At present, the labelling requirements for consumer electronics are established by the relevant Technical Regulations developed based on the EU Directives and the Consumer Protection Law of Ukraine. At the same time, the existence of outdated labelling requirements in the Rules led to misunderstandings in communications between business representatives and inspection authorities. The Rules foresaw indication of outdated information that no longer is indicated by world manufacturers, such as, for example, the class and colour of TV products, the nominal voltage or power of household appliances, etc. In addition, the Rules established stricter provisions with regard to the mandatory indication of the name and location of the manufacture on the product itself, whereas the technical regulations, in some cases, allow indicating such information on the packaging or shipping documentation. That is why the EBA Consumer Electronics Committee initiated the exclusion of labelling requirements from the Rules and took an active part in the development of the Order N80. We are grateful to the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade of Ukraine and other involved state authorities for adoption of this Order and hope for further constructive cooperation.
