We are pleased to inform that the efforts of the European Business Association to support the Draft Law No.6746 are successful. On 4 October 2017 following the meeting of the VRU Committee on Economic Policy (Committee), it was decided to recommend the VRU to adopt the Draft Law No.6746 (Draft Law) in the first reading as a basis.
On 17 July 2017 the Draft Law was registered in the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine (VRU). The Draft Law aims at improving the system of protection of economic competition and preventing from the unjustified interference with freedom of enterprise in Ukraine. The Draft Law anticipates amendments to the basic laws on protection of economic competition in order to establish the rights of persons involved in cases related to the activities of the Antimonopoly Committee of Ukraine, guarantees of these rights as well as mechanisms for their enforcement.
The European Business Association (Association) fully supports the need to apply the competition law in a transparent, timely and non-discriminatory way, with respect to the principles of procedural justice and the rights of business entities to get a relevant defenсe. These statements were reported by the Association’s letter dated 4 September 2017 as sent out to the author of the Draft Law and the MPs of the VRU Committee on Economic Policy (Committee), along with some additional proposals.
The Association welcomes the Committee’s decision. We are looking forward to the adoption of the Draft Law, with account of the Association’s proposals, within the framework of plenary meetings to be held during the seventh session of the VIII VRU convocation.
