The electronic consignment note (e-CMR) is gradually becoming the new standard for document management in freight transportation. At the same time, many companies continue to face questions regarding legislative requirements, the technical readiness of the system, and the practical steps required for a successful transition to the electronic format. These issues were the focus of the online event e-CMR for Business: Practical Steps for Implementation, organized by the Southern Ukrainian Office of the European Business Association on August 6. The speaker of the event was Vasyl Rosada, Head of the Vchasno.TTN service. The discussion was moderated by Valerii Shnurenko, Head of the Corporate Security Working Group of EBA Odesa. During the event, participants discussed the current state of e-CMR implementation in Ukraine, the latest legislative developments, and businesses readiness to transition to electronic document management. In particular, the speaker noted that the draft law introducing the mandatory use of e-CMR has already completed the public consultation stage and is currently undergoing approval and registration procedures. He also emphasized that the standard electronic consignment note form has already been implemented in the Central Database. Particular attention was paid to the practical aspects of preparing companies for e-CMR implementation. Participants discussed how to analyze existing transportation processes, appoint a project team, select an electronic document management provider, integrate the solution with internal business systems, and ensure that both employees and business partners are ready to work within the new digital framework. The speaker stressed that implementing e-CMR is, above all, a business process transformation rather than simply replacing a paper document with an electronic one. The role of electronic document management providers in the implementation process was also presented. The discussion covered registration in the Central Database, the exchange of structured data among all parties involved in transportation, integration support, document archiving, and comprehensive assistance throughout every stage of the implementation process. During the Q&A session, company representatives received practical guidance on the most common implementation challenges. These included interoperability between different electronic document management providers, documentation for transportation using a companys own vehicles, the use of e-CMR when working with individuals and sole proprietors, the preparation of discrepancy reports in cases of cargo shortages, cooperation with courier and postal operators, and the prospects for integrating e-CMR with other electronic business documents. The event served as a practical platform for discussing the challenges businesses already face in the digitalization of logistics processes. Participants gained up-to-date information on preparing for the transition to e-CMR, practical recommendations for organizing the implementation process, and expert answers to questions arising in their day-to-day operations.
