  Representatives of the Woodworking and Furniture Committee met with Mr Maxim Martynyuk, First Deputy Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine, and discussed key issues of reforming the forest industry. In particular, the representatives of the Committee had an opportunity to hear Mr. Martyniuks general view on the main directions of forestry reform (namely, on the need to separate the functions of state regulation, supervision and control from the functions of economic activity in the forestry sector) and to express their position (namely, regarding the inadmissibility of the transfer of forestry in concession and lease and on the possible risks that the transfer of functions of economic activity in the field of forestry the economy of the newly established state-owned enterprise with corporate rights). Also during the meeting, agreements were reached on: inclusion of representatives of the Committee in the newly created working group at the Ministry of Agrarian Policy on forestry reform; holding an additional workshop on the introduction of a unified state system of electronic wood accounting; the necessity of amending the sanitary rules in the forests of Ukraine in order to take measures to prevent the massive drying of coniferous forest plantations from damage to pests and diseases; obligatory attraction of representatives of the Committee to further processes of improving (reforming) the system of sale of unprocessed timber.
