Grain and Oilseeds, Agrochemicals

20/ 09/ 2017

Today, Volodymyr Lapa, Head of the State Service of Ukraine on Food Safety and Consumer Protection, together with his colleagues, came to the office of the Association to meet with members of the European Business Association’s Grain and Oilseeds Committee.

A discussion began on the prospects of entering new markets. In particular, they talked about the state of export of Ukrainian agricultural products to China, as well as other importing countries of Ukrainian grain. Executive Director of the Committee, Irina Dushnik, emphasized that China is now one of the world’s largest importers of agricultural products.

We welcome the recent opening of the market for sunflower meal and beet pulp for Ukrainian exporters. Extension of the list of agricultural products exported from Ukraine is one of the key priorities of the industry’s development. There is a need to work on creating new opportunities for Ukrainian agriculture, in particular by signing relevant interstate protocols between Ukraine and the PRC regarding agricultural crops such as peas, wheat, corn grain, rape and cake.

There were also such important issues on the agenda, which would make it easier for businesses in the sector to do business, namely:

  • Introduction of changes to the phytosanitary legislation for the participation of the subject in the selection of samples and testing (including arbitration);
  • The status of the Draft Law No. 6673, which will enable private laboratories to be involved in the provision of services for the selection of product samples and the conduct of phytosanitary expertise.

We are sincerely grateful to our colleagues from State Service of Ukraine on Food Safety and Consumer Protection and all participants of the meeting for an open and constructive dialogue.
