Most companies implement Lean. Only a few truly live by it. On May 12, the Manufacturing Committee organized a Company Visit to Klingspor Ukraine, a global manufacturer of abrasive materials with operations in more than 60 countries. Participants came not for a factory tour, but to understand what operational excellence looks like in a company that has been building it for years rather than implementing it as a box-ticking exercise. At the production facility in Velyki Mosty, participants observed the full manufacturing cycle: abrasive production technologies, diamond tool operations, and quality control standards. Yet the key question of the day was different: why does Lean remain a project in most companies rather than becoming a business strategy? Yurii Reznyk, CEO of Klingspor Ukraine, provided a clear management perspective: business resilience is not built on crisis-response decisions, but on a culture of standards that works every day, regardless of external conditions. Bohdan Mazurkevych, operational excellence expert, explored the anatomy of transformations that stall halfway. Implementing a Kanban board is not difficult. Creating an environment where teams proactively identify waste and ask “why?” instead of doing things “the way they’ve always been done” — that is where real Lean begins.
