EBA Odesa Online Meeting: How Businesses Can Obtain Compensation for War Damages in 2026

  After the launch of the application process for legal entities to the Register of Damages of Ukraine, businesses have gained a real tool to record losses and later access compensation mechanisms. At the same time, submitting an application is only the first step, which requires a proper evidence base and a strategic approach. To clarify the current rules and procedures, the Southern Ukrainian Office of the European Business Association (EBA Odesa) held an online meeting of the Corporate Security Working Group on the topic: “How to Obtain Compensation for War Damages: New Rules and Opportunities for Business in 2026.” The meeting was opened and moderated by Kateryna Morozova, Head of the EBA Southern Ukrainian Office. Valerii Shnurenko, Head of the Corporate Security Working Group of the EBA in Odesa and Head of Corporate Security at Risoil Group, also joined the discussion, welcoming participants and emphasizing the importance of damage documentation for businesses amid the ongoing war. The speaker of the meeting was Sergii Kliutsa, lawyer, partner at Crowe Mikhailenko, and Head of the Practice for Supporting War Damage Cases. He shared practical advice for businesses, including: Recording all losses immediately after the incident; Systematizing documents, photos, and videos; Preparing financial and legal evidence to confirm damages. During the meeting, participants also discussed: The step-by-step actions for businesses after property damage; Proper documentation of losses (photo/video recording, financial and ownership documents); Common mistakes when preparing and submitting applications; Specifics of submitting to the Register of Damages of Ukraine; Preparation for national and future international compensation mechanisms.
