Laurent Germain, CEO of Egis, appointed chairman of the MEDEF International France-Ukraine Business Council

21/ 05/ 2021
“I am very proud to have been appointed chairman of the France-Ukraine Business Council and to be able to continue to pursue the actions initiated by my predecessor, Nicolas Jachiet, who held this position since 2017. Ukraine occupies a special position in the international development of the Egis group, as it constitutes our regional pivot for our activities in Eastern Europe and Central Asia. In the space of 25 years, we have become a leading player in the road and railway transport markets in Ukraine. We wish to expand this position to all our specialities, most notably by supporting the substantial investment planned by France in infrastructure. We are also actively monitoring the national prospects for the development of road and airport concessions and we intend to develop further in the energy field for the benefit of the whole region. In fact, our Kiev office will be our base from which, alongside our partner EDF, we will soon be leading the project to modernise the Uch-Kurgan hydroelectric power plant in Kyrgyzstan. This project is absolutely essential for regional energy security and to reduce carbon emissions in Central Asia. Harnessing our experience in the region, I look forward to accompanying and supporting the development of economic partnerships and cooperation between France and Ukraine,” comments Laurent Germain. MEDEF International, the leading French private sector business network operating worldwide, conducts collective actions through its France-Ukraine Business Council to promote French solutions on the Ukrainian market. MEDEF International has been active in Ukraine since 1991, the year in which contacts were established with the country’s new political, economic and business leaders. MEDEF International, alongside the French and Ukrainian authorities, accompanies and supports the development of economic and industrial partnerships and cooperation based on areas of complementarity and shared interests and which deliver successful results on the Ukrainian market.
