Restoring the independence of anti-corruption bodies – a positive signal for investors

31/ 07/ 2025
Today, 31 July, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine adopted, and the President of Ukraine signed, Draft Law No. 13533 aimed at restoring the independence of the country’s key anti-corruption institutions – the National Anti-Corruption Bureau and the Specialised Anti-Corruption Prosecutors Office. The European Business Association welcomes this development. It is very important that the voice of business and society is heard on this matter. An independent and effective anti-corruption infrastructure is one of Ukraine’s key commitments on its path towards European integration. Moreover, the fight against corruption has long been a significant and persistent demand from the business community to the government. According to the Foreign Investor Sentiment Survey conducted by Global Business for Ukraine and the European Business Association, corruption or lack of transparency is considered the second most significant barrier to investing in Ukraine (after security concerns), as indicated by 47% of respondents. Therefore, the EBA expresses its hope that the development and strengthening of Ukraine’s anti-corruption infrastructure will continue, alongside other systemic reforms on the country’s path to the European Union. The business community remains a reliable partner to the government in pursuing European integration and improving the investment climate.
