30/ 08/ 2023
In Ukraine, a new higher education facility has opened to provide masters and bachelors degree programs in psychology and psychotherapy that adhere to European norms. * * * The private Sigmund Freud University in Ukraine, which is an official partner of the Sigmund Freud University Vienna in Austria, the largest recognized university in Western Europe in the field of psychology and psychotherapy, has received licenses from the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine to conduct educational higher education activities. The idea of opening such a university in Ukraine appeared in 2016, but it has only now made sense, says Tetiana Pysarenko, PhD, co-founder and rector of the newly established Sigmund Freud University Ukraine: “On February 24, 2022, the life of every Ukrainian changed. The misery of war, which we had previously read about in novels and watched in movies, has now been lived. Most Ukrainians today awaken with feelings of despair, fear, worry, depression, indifference, and occasionally a complete loss of the meaning of life. The effects of the conflict will be felt and seen for future generations even if the wat ends tomorrow. That is why, right now, we must consolidate our efforts to ensure that our heroes and all Ukrainians who need help as a result of the war receive the necessary psychological rehabilitation. That is why we are opening a university and starting to train psychologists and psychotherapists.” The ZFUUs educational and training program, which combines theoretical and practical lessons with internships in the field, is based on the parent Austrian model of the new standard. The institution has a research lab and a psychological support clinic to help aspiring psychologists put their academic knowledge into practice. Students of all faculties participate in research projects from the first year of study, which guarantees them professionalism and simplicity of job search. The curriculum is designed in accordance with all the requirements necessary to obtain licenses for bachelors and masters programs in psychology. The university provides full-time education in Ukrainian and English to enable students to participate in international congresses and conferences. Teachers are an international group of recognized academics and licensed psychotherapists from the US, Ukraine, and Austria. “We have created everything to ensure that the university delivers not only professional credentials but also a fundamental foundation that will allow Ukrainian students to earn a PhD (doctorate) at the Austrian Sigmund Freud University in Vienna on favourable conditions. We have the capacity to train up to 5,000 specialists at a time. Most significant, though, is that we want to. After all, our contribution to Ukraines victory and a prosperous country in the future is the education of qualified professionals in the fields of psychology and psychotherapy!” added Tetiana Pysarenko, PhD, co-founder and rector of the newly established Sigmund Freud University Ukraine.
