In 2018, the volume of non-cash transactions increased by 55%

22/ 02/ 2019
On February 22, the NBU unveiled statistics on the development of the cashless payment market in 2018. According to it, in a year, the number of payment card holders reached 42.3 million people. In addition, the number of active payment cards increased up to a total of 36.9 million pieces. Compared to last year, it increased to 6%. It should be noted that the percentage of active payment cards amounts to 62.2%. In the context of payment systems, the leader is MasterCard. The number of active cards in this system is 26 million, which is 70.3% of the total. The number of Visa cards is 10.5 million (28.5%), Prostir cards - 0.5 million (1.2%), and other payment cards - 4 thousand (0.01%). The largest issuers are Privatbank, Oschadbank and Raiffeisen Bank Aval. Ievgenii Veremiichenko. Electronic Payments Committee Coordinator. As expected, more and more Ukrainians prefer cashless settlements, as evidenced by the positive dynamics of all indicators. The data indicate an increase in the number of payment cards, their wider use, an increase in the volume and number of non-cash payments. In addition, there is a gradual development of infrastructure for accepting payment cards. And, of course, a good indicator is that such a trend has steadily been observed for the last few years. We hope, in a few years, to catch up with European indicators. Thus, the amount of non-cash payments in 2018 amounted to UAH 1 297 billion. It is 55.4% more than in the previous year. In a year, the number of non-cash transactions grew by 33% and amounted to 3.1 billion pieces. The network of POS terminals has grown by 20% and now stands at 279 thousand units. Moreover, the number of enterprises in the field of trade and services increased by 20%, which provides an opportunity to make settlements with the use of payment cards (there are 208.7 thousand of them). In addition, 79.4% of terminals provide contactless payment options, including using Apple Pay and Google Pay services. At the same time, today, only 38% of SMEs in Ukraine offer their clients the opportunity to pay by card, while, for example, in Europe the percentage is 62%. At the same time, by number these enterprises make up 99% of the business sector. So, of course, this situation constitutes a restraining barrier for both payment card holders and for the possibility of distributing the latest payment services and technologies in Ukraine. Therefore, the business community appeals to the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade of Ukraine to approve the updated CMU Resolution On approval of requirements to business entities for the acceptance of electronic payment facilities in payment for the goods (services rendered) as soon as possible. Its approval will allow for clear criteria and provide a gradual transition of business to mandatory acceptance of payments in non-cash form. This, in turn, will allow for the establishment of equal conditions and enable consumers to choose the most convenient method of payment.
