EBA Odesa Personal & Corporate Efficiency Studio: “Difficult communication: how to survive and win?”

  Communication is a rather complex process, which consists not only in the exchange of information, but also in the ability to perceive and understand each other. However, there are irrational people with whom traditional methods of communication are impossible. Therefore, it is extremely important not only to know the basic laws of communication, but also to have additional communication skills with complex interlocutors. On May 13, 2021, during the EBA Odesa Personal & Corporate Efficiency Studio, we discussed the topic of difficult communication. In particular, the speakers of the meeting Olexander Kaygorodov, coach of the Academy of Communications, Chairman of the Debate Club Carpe diem and Pavlo Bogachenko, coach of the Academy of Communications, co-founder of Debate for changes NGO told what is the reason for destructive behavior in conflict situations. Particular attention was paid to communication techniques, which should be used in complex negotiations and with difficult interlocutors. Thus, there are a number of objective and subjective points that make communication difficult. Among the objective — the presence of contradictions between interests, positions, opinions. Among the subjective component are psychological pressure, strong emotions (both yours and the interlocutors).  So, to simplify destructive communication, realize and master your emotions, ask clarifying questions, allow yourself a pause to think. In addition, try to formulate your thoughts as clearly and unambiguously as possible and present yourself from the point of view of the interlocutor, in order to better understand the point of view of the other person and not complicate the communication process. As you can see, if you understand the secrets, strategies and tricks of irrational people and adapt their behavior, you can not only deal with them, but also effectively coexist.
