Preparing Businesses and Citizens for Action in a State of Emergency or Martial Law

16/ 02/ 2022
In the modern world, besides the military threat, attacks on critical infrastructure, transport, IT systems, communications, etc. have spread. For example, attacks could cause problems with medical services, communications and power systems. Therefore, you need to be prepared for such cases. On February 16, at an online meeting of the EBA Odesa Working Group on Corporate Security, together with member companies in the region, we discussed four sets of questions related to Odesa Oblasts readiness to act in a state of emergency or martial law. We talked about the population’s actions in military emergencies and algorithms of behaviour to save their lives in critical situations, received medical advice on what should be in the companys office and family medicine cabinet in emergencies and how to use it, and talked about business readiness to cyber threats and the lack of internet and telephone communications. For example, when we talk about the readiness of businesses to face cyber threats, it is necessary to: 1. Assemble a team that will be responsible for providing recommendations, monitoring and approving resources, facilitating the implementation and routine testing of the program, providing cooperation and support in all departments, if it would needed. 2. Understand your risks-identify-prioritize, mitigate, reduce risk. 3. Identify and prioritize key business functions in the company. 4. Create an emergency management plan. 5. Create a communication plan. 6. Create an evacuation plan. 7. Create or replenish your emergency kit. 8. Back up data using a hybrid cloud backup system, etc. In times when an emergency occurs, the simple things can quickly become inaccessible. So the best tactic will be to know what to do for citizens and businesses in emergencies and in case of war. We thank our speakers for useful algorithms of action that will help to cope more effectively with the crisis, as well as reduce the negative consequences for each of us and the business!
