Kernel and USAID jointly develop alternative ways of agricultural products logistics

03/ 03/ 2023
Kernel is increasing Ukraine’s export capacity by developing its river terminal in Reni in cooperation with the International Technical Assistance Project “Economic Resilience Activity” funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID). The parties signed a Memorandum of Partnership. The project also involves Nibulon and Grain Alliance, which will develop export logistics at river terminals in Izmail (Ukraine) and Čierna nad Tisou (Slovakia). Total investments in the development of Ukraine’s export logistics will amount to over USD 44 million. USD 8 million will be received from the USAID and more than USD 36 million from three Ukrainian business partners.  The joint financing is expected to increase grain transportation capacity by 3.35 million tons per year. “We appreciate the support our partners provide to Ukrainian agribusiness in these difficult times. Due to international cooperation, we have more opportunities to develop river logistics. We are honoured to be the USAID’s partners in this Activity, as it is not only about strengthening Ukraine’s export potential, but also about ensuring global food security,” Yevhen Osypov, CEO of Kernel, emphasized.    Kernel acquired an asset in the port of Reni on the Danube River in 2022 to transship sunflower oil and meal. To make exports by river more efficient, the Company has already invested in barges, short-sea vessels and convenient vehicles to transport grain and oil. The additional investment in access to berths will increase the volume by 600,000 tons per year. Kernel has invested more than USD 2.5 billion in the development of the Ukrainian economy over the past 15 years.
