Leader during the war: how to restore the ability to influence business results?

18/ 04/ 2022
In peacetime, leaders always had something to worry about. This is the awareness of their responsibility to the team, and indicators of efficiency, goals and communication with subordinates etc. But during the war, the level of stress has increased tenfold, so the question of what kind of leader during martial law to learn to support themselves and motivate their team, becomes very relevant. On April 15, 2022, a master class on the EBA Odesa Mental Health was organised. At the meetings of this new format, we will also discuss how to support ourselves, our team, stabilize our psycho-emotional states, including in the wartime. Together with the invited speaker Nataliya Yurganova, HRD Restaurants of Sava Lybkin, business psychologist, psychotherapist, we discussed how to manage emotions and feelings in conditions of uncertainty and find personal inner resources, how to restore values and inner support, and talked about the development of resilience and coping strategies. Thus, it is important to understand that during emergencies, wars, catastrophes, the laws of individual psychology cease to apply to man, and the laws of mass psychology begin to apply, the main of which are: loss of individuality (personal norms, values, boundaries, rollback of the psyche to animal existence, loss of human I), mass infection with emotions (anxiety, panic, fear, anxiety, caused by the fact that our psyche is not ready for such conditions and uncertainty of the future, plus anger, hatred, aggression, anger, guilt - repeatedly exacerbated by transmission from one to another on the principle of resonance , and mass infection with the strongest emotions turns into an epidemic). That is why each of us needs: Do not infect yourself and others with panic, anger and destructive emotions. Not to lose the human I - to be altruistic, not selfish, to have a clear focus of attention, concentration, a high level of self-discipline, to do their job (which you love and know how to do). Also, we leave some useful exercises to relieve the physical components of stress below. Diver reflex - put a cold wet towel on your face and hold your breath for 15-30 seconds or lower your face into a sink/basin with cold water. Increased tremors - in the event of chills, tremors should be intensified by shaking or asking you to shake vigorously. Techniques of self-help in a panic attack (5 senses): Find with your eyes 5 things you enjoy looking at. Name aloud. Listen until you hear 5 sounds. Sniff 5 scents (you can sniff things specifically). Touch 5 objects with your hand. Name 5 sensations in the body. Repeat again. Name everything out loud. Pay attention to your breathe. Do not change anything, you do not need to breathe evenly or deeply or something else. Just listen to your breath. Now inhale as usual and exhale more slowly than usual. Exercise - squats, push-ups, swinging the press, walking as much as possible on occasion. We are used to leaders being called leaders in everyday life. They are strong, energetic, powerful. They are a support! But sometimes the “pillars” need time and opportunity to restore their internal resources and take care of their condition now. Thanks to the speaker for the valuable advices!
