IKEA SEE donates 1.7M Euros in support of local Ukrainian humanitarian projects

  How the company is helping in laying the foundation to upkeep the emergency community and co-worker support The devastating war in Ukraine immensely impacted millions of peoples safety and security, substantially affecting the homes of Ukrainians across the nation. At IKEA, we aim to create a better everyday life for the many people - which goes beyond home furnishing. To provide a sense of home for internally displaced families, the IKEA business has granted a total of 1.7M Euros in product and cash donations so far, supporting over 35,000 individuals in Ukraine. Together with Ukrainian institutions and international organizations, IKEA partnered up on various local initiatives with the aim of providing accommodation assistance. The support efforts include: Donating 17K Euros for Kolping temporary accommodation and rehabilitation centers in the Chernivtsi, Vinnytsia, and Zakarpattia regions. The temporary housing and social centers for internally displaced persons are aimed at providing mental health support, legal advice, and overall social protection;   Support of the balbek bureau RE:UKRAINE Housing initiative, with 31K Euros donated for a free-of-charge residential block located in Bucha, Kyiv region, where ​​people can stay until its safe to go back home and their homes are re-constructed; A grant of 63K Euros has been given to the Ukrainian Red Cross for food kits which were distributed to displaced people in Mykolaiv and Poltava; Together with Save the Children, 172K Euros worth of products have been provided to accommodation centers in Chernivtsi, Dnipro, and Vinnytsia, that house women with children;   Along with the Danish Red Cross, IKEA has donated a total of 1.5M Euros to various accommodation centers across Ukraine that provide shelter for 30 000 internally displaced people (mainly women/families with children, the elderly, and people with disabilities). “As reality is constantly shifting, there is a great demand for extreme agility; therefore, we decided to join efforts with partner institutions currently implementing immediate relief projects in Ukraine. As a result, 145,000 products were donated, along with additional monetary grants, with which we were able to furnish numerous accommodation centers, childrens play areas, and modular homes for Ukrainians seeking temporary housing, said Olga Ilchyshyna, IKEA Ukraine Deputy Market Manager. Besides emergency relief, since the beginning of the war the safety and security of our co-workers was our top priority from day one. In addition to guaranteed job stability and salary payments for all nearly 400 co-workers, we implemented a communication system to provide them with the latest updates regarding their job security and overall safety. IKEA also established a Solidarity Fund to protect the standard of living and livelihood of various families within our company.
