EBA welcomes the MoH State Expert Center as a partner of the Trials Truth project

25/ 03/ 2021
The State Expert Center of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine has joined the EBA all-Ukrainian Trials Truth project. The main goal of the project is to raise public awareness about clinical trials, their purpose, and related patients rights to understand the benefits and specific aspects of clinical trials, their role in the development of new drugs, and confirmation of the treatment effectiveness. Clinical trials are an integral part of the development of new drugs. Often participation in clinical trials remains the only chance for recovery or improvement of the condition and quality of life for seriously ill patients. Citizens of the worlds leading countries have long expressed their confidence in clinical trials and actively took part in trials. What should Ukrainians know about clinical trials? Why is clinical trial a path to innovative treatment? What rights and opportunities are participants entitled to? This and much more are discussed in the Trials Truth project. Thus, the first animated video Clinical Trials: What should we know, with which the State Expert Center started its publication on the Project, highlights the followings: History of clinical trials. Why are clinical trials approved not by scientists but by ethics committees? How a drawing method (randomization) helps to create groups of patients? What is blinding in randomized trials, etc. Watch the video for more information It will be recalled that at the end of 2019, the EBA Clinical Trials Subcommittee launched the Trials Truth project to talk about clinical trials, their benefits, and peculiarities. Since the beginning of the project, the Ministry of Health of Ukraine has been our information partner. Currently, the project has established a partnership with government agencies and NGOs, in particular, with the State Expert Center. As part of the project, information videos were created and posted in the public domain, and information site was launched, and many information materials on clinical trials were published by all project participants. Why was this project launched? Unfortunately, in Ukraine, there is a low level of public awareness about the topic of clinical trials, patients rights, opportunities provided by participants in clinical trials. This, in turn, leads to a misunderstanding of clinical trials, the emergence and spread of fake information about them, and thus an unjustified refusal to participate in trials, which primarily limits patients right to have a choice. It is very important that the citizens of Ukraine (patients, doctors, researchers, heads of health care institutions, government officials, etc.) are as well informed as possible about the trials and can responsibly use clinical trials as an opportunity that is common around the world. The Trials Truth project provides an open platform for the exchange of information on clinical trials. Anyone wishing to share experiences, stories, videos, articles, graphics, or other material related to clinical trials can send information to [email protected].
