Business welcomes extension of grain initiative for 120 days According to official information, the grain initiative (which expired on Saturday, 18 March) has been extended for 120 days. Over the course of the grain agreement, Ukraine has supplied 25 million tonnes of agricultural products to the world. The EBA grain business community appealed to the UN and the Turkish Embassy to do everything possible to extend the grain corridor, namely including the Mykolaiv seaport to the initiative and increasing the daily number of inspections of ships with Ukrainian agricultural products. However, according to the information received, unfortunately, it was not possible to expand the geography and include Mykolaiv ports during the negotiations. At the same time, the EBA emphasises the need to take measures to ensure the stable and timely work of inspectors/representatives of the commission operating under the Joint Coordination Centre to speed up the movement of ships with Ukrainian grain and eliminate queues. It is also crucial to expand the geography of the Grain Initiative, namely to include Mykolaiv seaport, other ports and terminals located in the Buzka-Dniprovska Canal, as well as the specialised seaport Olvia in the Black Sea Grain Initiative to increase the throughput capacity for grain exports. The EBA is grateful to the UN, the Government of the Republic of Turkey and international partners for their support of the Initiative. We are also grateful to the Office of the President of Ukraine, the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine, the Ministry of Community, Territorial and Infrastructure Development of Ukraine, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine and the Ukrainian Sea Ports Authority for all their efforts to ensure the continued export of Ukrainian grain and oilseeds under the Initiative.
