13/ 10/ 2026
On 8 October, Odesa hosted the “Live and Work in Ukraine” Education and Career Opportunities Forum, bringing together representatives of businesses, vocational education institutions, government authorities, the employment service, veterans, and internally displaced persons (IDPs). The event provided a platform for dialogue on current labour market needs, vocational training, reskilling, and opportunities for employment in Ukraine. The forum brought together more than 200 participants, around 50 employers, and 10 vocational education institutions. Business representatives presented current job openings and workforce needs, while educational institutions introduced participants to various specialisations and opportunities to acquire professional skills. Particular attention was paid to the employment of veterans and IDPs, as well as cooperation between employers and educational institutions. The Southern Ukrainian Office of the European Business Association was represented by Nadiia Savchenko, Chair of the EBA Odesa HR Committee and CEO of HR Agency Key People. In her address, Nadiia Savchenko emphasised that access to decent employment and professional development opportunities is one of the key factors encouraging people to remain in Ukraine or return home. At the same time, achieving this requires not only creating jobs but also fostering a society in which everyone has the opportunity to realise their potential. In particular, she highlighted the need to overcome prejudices against IDPs and veterans, as well as the importance of showing due respect to military personnel. She noted that integrating people into professional and social life requires systematic efforts not only from employers and the state but also from society as a whole. Nadiia Savchenko also stressed the importance of learning from and implementing international HR practices, exchanging experience, and pursuing continuous professional development. The European Business Association brings together employers and HR professionals who regularly meet to discuss current labour market challenges and share practical solutions. This exchange of experience helps businesses adapt to change and develop effective approaches to people management. The “Live and Work in Ukraine” Forum was organised by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Ukraine, with the support of the Government of Japan, in partnership with the Odesa Regional State (Military) Administration, the State Employment Service, the European Business Association, and the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine. Developing human capital, ensuring access to quality vocational education, and strengthening cooperation between businesses and educational institutions are essential prerequisites for the region’s economic resilience. By creating opportunities for professional growth and development, Ukrainian businesses help people build their future in Ukraine.
