Government Aligns Requirements for External Power Supplies with EU Legislation. The European Business Association welcomes the adoption by the Government of Resolution No. 1207, which approves the new Technical Regulation on ecodesign requirements for external power supplies. The adoption of this decision has long been supported by the EBA Consumer Electronics Committee. Previously, Ukraine applied the Technical Regulation approved by Cabinet of Ministers Resolution No. 150 of 27 February 2019, which was developed on the basis of Commission Regulation (EC) No. 278/2009. However, this Regulation was repealed in the European Union following the adoption of Commission Regulation (EU) 2019/1782, which has applied since 1 April 2020. This situation created an additional regulatory burden for businesses. In particular, companies placing products on the EU market already test and confirm their products’ compliance with Regulation (EU) 2019/1782. At the same time, for the Ukrainian market, they were additionally required to ensure compliance with the Technical Regulation based on Regulation (EC) No. 278/2009, which had already been repealed in the EU. Therefore, the EBA Consumer Electronics Committee appealed to the State Agency on Energy Efficiency and Energy Saving of Ukraine and the Ministry for Development of Communities and Territories of Ukraine, calling for the approval and adoption of the new Technical Regulation, developed on the basis of the current EU Regulation 2019/1782, to be accelerated. The Association therefore welcomes the Government’s adoption of the respective decision. The new Technical Regulation will contribute to further alignment of Ukraine’s technical regulation framework with European Union requirements and help eliminate regulatory discrepancies for companies operating in both the Ukrainian and EU markets. We thank the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine, the State Agency on Energy Efficiency and Energy Saving of Ukraine, and other involved public authorities for taking into account the position of the business community and for their constructive cooperation. We look forward to further consistent progress towards aligning Ukraine’s technical regulation framework with EU legislation.
