EBA Retail Committee discussed business operations following massive attacks

  On 7 August, the Retail Committee of the European Business Association held an extraordinary meeting convened in response to massive Russian attacks on civilian and business infrastructure. The participants discussed the situation in the retail market, including the impact of the destruction of warehouses and sorting centres. Despite the loss of logistics centres, companies continue to operate and emphasise that their top priority remains ensuring the uninterrupted operation of shops and pharmacies. Businesses are considering the redistribution of stocks and medicines, while rapidly adjusting their logistics processes to minimise disruptions in the supply of goods and medicines. The participants also discussed measures to strengthen security, including the installation of mobile civil protection shelters. Following the meeting, representatives of the Retail Committee developed proposals for the Government aimed at ensuring the uninterrupted operation of retail businesses. The uninterrupted operation of retail infrastructure is critical to ensuring the country’s food security, maintaining public access to medicines, preserving jobs and securing state budget revenues. Despite the attacks, businesses are adapting and continuing to operate.
