Gdańsk travel guide for URC visitors

10/ 06/ 2026
We want your trip to Gdańsk to be not only productive, but also memorable — so we have prepared a selection of tips to help you discover the city. Explore iconic locations, taste local cuisine, and make the most of your time between URC sessions!  01  ·  SMART TIPS  Practical essentials  Transport  Uber and Bolt operate reliably and are generally the most convenient way to get around. The SKM commuter rail is a fast and affordable option to Sopot or Gdynia.  Payment  The local currency is the Polish złoty (PLN). Card payments are accepted virtually everywhere; cash is only necessary at markets.  Weather  June in Gdańsk: 18–24°C, with possible rain and Baltic winds. Due to the proximity of the sea, evenings can be cool and breezy even on warm days.  Language  Polish is the official language; English is widely spoken in the city centre.  Connectivity  eSIM or a SIM card from Play, Orange, or Plus is available at the airport. Hotel Wi-Fi is generally reliable.  Executive Tip    For evening meetings or informal networking, the best areas are along the Motława waterfront, Olivia Star, and central Sopot.  02  ·  MUST-SEE  The highlights of Gdańsk  Długa Street and the Golden Gate (Złota Brama)  The main artery of the Old Town — baroque facades, the Neptune Fountain, and the Main Town Hall. A 15-minute walk from most city-centre hotels.  The Crane (Żuraw)  The largest medieval port crane in Europe, standing on the Motława riverbank since the 15th century. One of the most recognisable symbols of the city and one of its most photogenic spots — especially in the evening light.  European Solidarity Centre  A museum on the site of the legendary shipyard where the Solidarity movement was born in 1980 — and where, in effect, the fall of the Iron Curtain began. For URC participants, this place carries particular significance: it is where a movement arose that changed not only Poland, but the future of the entire Central and Eastern European region.  Motława Waterfront (Długie Pobrzeże)  An evening stroll along the river — restaurants, cafes, and the reflections of lights on the water. An ideal setting for informal networking or simply unwinding after a full day.  03  ·  TASTE OF GDAŃSK  What to try  Śledź po gdańsku — Baltic herring  Marinated herring with onion and apple. Simple, but an authentic taste of Gdańsk — available in every traditional restaurant.  Żurek — sour rye soup  A sour rye soup served with a hard-boiled egg and sausage. A classic of Polish cuisine with a distinctive tangy flavour, particularly popular in the northern regions of Poland.  Goldwasser  The famous Gdańsk liqueur with gold leaf flakes — produced in the city since the 16th century. One of the most distinctive local souvenirs Gdańsk has to offer. Available at shops along Mariacka Street.  Where to eat: Mariacka Street and Długie Pobrzeże are where the best establishments are concentrated.  04  ·  EXCLUSIVE GDAŃSK  Experiences found nowhere else  ARCO by Paco Pérez — the only Michelin-starred restaurant in the region  Located on the 33rd floor of the Olivia Star skyscraper, offering a panoramic view of Gdańsk and the cuisine of Spanish chef Paco Pérez, holder of 5 Michelin stars across his restaurants worldwide. Unique across the entire Tri-City area. Advance reservation is essential.  Olivia Star Observation Deck  One of the finest panoramic viewpoints in the Tri-City area and an atmospheric venue for a glass of wine or an informal gathering after a full day at the conference.  Eliksir  One of the most distinctive cocktail and dining concepts in Poland — a restaurant known for its cocktail pairings and contemporary Polish cuisine. An excellent choice for a business dinner or an evening meeting in a less formal setting.  Mariacka Street  The most beautiful Gothic street in Poland — cobblestones, terraced house porches, and jewellers’ workshops. Amber has been bought and sold here just as it was centuries ago. One of the finest areas in the city for purchasing locally crafted amber pieces.  Sopot — 20 minutes from the city centre  If there is a free evening, take the SKM commuter rail and reach Sopot in 20 minutes: home to the longest wooden pier on the Baltic Sea. An ideal place for a brief respite between conference sessions and a chance to experience the atmosphere of the Baltic coast.  05  ·  BUSINESS TRIP CONCIERGE  Travel and Logistics Support for Participants of the EBA Event and URC 2026    Need assistance with logistics or accommodation in Gdańsk?   Complete the form on the Business Trip Concierge page and we will identify the most suitable options for your requirements and budget.  → Complete the form  https://eba.com.ua/en/business-trip-concierge/  View exclusive benefits for EBA members with partner hotels, insurance providers, and logistics companies:  → Exclusive benefits https://eba.com.ua/profile/exclusive-benefits/  → EBA Travel Lab Your source of up-to-date business travel information, practical travel tips, and exclusive opportunities for EBA members.  Share your feedback How helpful was this guide?
