EBA takes part in discussion on developing food banking system in Ukraine

  Tetiana Shyrochenko, Manager of Committees at the European Business Association, and Serhii Ivashchenko, Head of the Association’s ESG Hub and Head of Government Relations, CSR and Sustainability at METRO Ukraine, took part in the roundtable “Food Donor Day: international and European food safety standards and the development of the food banking system in Ukraine”, held at the invitation of the Ukrainian Food Banks Federation. The event also brought together representatives of the Government, business, diplomatic missions of Lithuania, Austria and the Czech Republic, as well as the European Food Banks Federation. During the discussion, participants examined the operation of food banking systems in EU countries and the potential for adapting European practices in Ukraine. Particular attention was paid to issues of state control, the implementation of HACCP systems, and the regulation of shelf life requirements for food products within Ukraine’s food bank system. The draft law “On Food Banks”, which aims to establish a regulatory framework for the development of food banking in Ukraine, was also discussed. Serhii Ivashchenko shared retailers’ experience of cooperation with food banks and emphasised the importance of involving business representatives in the analysis of the draft law on food banks in order to develop an effective and practical implementation model.
