Association supports improvement of timber exchange trading through a risk-oriented clearing model

18/ 05/ 2026
Experts of the European Business Association joined the discussion on improving exchange trading during the latest meeting of the Section Council at the Ukrainian Universal Exchange. The key issue on the agenda was the introduction of amendments to the risk-oriented approach of the Ukrainian Clearing House regarding the determination of guarantee contribution amounts in auctions for the sale of unprocessed timber, as well as the organisation of derivative contracts (forwards), in connection with the implementation of a counterparty risk assessment system. During the meeting, participants reviewed all problematic issues and supported the transition to a risk-oriented model for securing obligations under forward contracts. The introduction of a differentiated approach towards participants in the woodworking market is expected to: positively affect bona fide woodworking enterprises; minimise cases of speculation by buyers during exchange trading. The Association recalls that its representatives have repeatedly stressed the need to improve exchange trading mechanisms and submitted relevant proposals to the competent authorities. As exchange trading has proven to be the most effective mechanism for timber sales, the Association supports its further improvement with the involvement of the business community.
