06/ 08/ 2025
https://youtu.be/jk6ywC3TdY8 On 4 August, a highly significant meeting took place in Kharkiv between representatives of the business community and the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyy. Also in attendance were the Head of the Presidential Office, Andriy Yermak, Deputy Prime Minister Oleksii Kuleba, as well as senior officials from central and local government, including Head of the Kharkiv Regional Military Administration, Oleh Syniehubov, Mayor of Kharkiv, Ihor Terekhov, and their respective teams. The European Business Association was represented at the event by Ihor Balaka, Head of the EBA Kharkiv Office Coordination Board, and Serhii Polituchyi, Board Member.   One of the key issues discussed at the meeting was the support of the economy in frontline and border areas of Ukraine’s eastern regions. In particular, the following needs were highlighted: increasing the percentage of reserved employees for businesses operating in these regions; mechanisms to raise salaries for teachers, healthcare professionals, and civil servants in these areas; introducing insurance schemes for local businesses; ensuring down payment guarantees for mortgage loans for residents of frontline territories. EBA representatives agreed to submit to the President and government officials a set of specific proposals developed by the EBA to support businesses in frontline regions, for consideration at the next Cabinet meeting. At the national level, a 10-year programme for economic support of frontline regions is currently under development, and the EBA stands ready to actively contribute to its design. “We firmly believe that frontline regions require a special economic status. Businesses that continue to operate in these territories deserve special attention, preferential conditions, and institutional support,” EBA representatives stressed. The European Business Association will continue working on systemic solutions aimed at restoring and developing Ukraine’s economy, particularly in regions located in close proximity to the front line.
