Bohdan Mazurkevych with the involvement of the Progress-Service team. The programme combined lectures, production visits, practical exercises and work on participants’ own company cases.

Module 1 covered the link between Lean and company strategy and economics, standard work for leaders, Gemba Walking, types of waste, idea systems, Kanban, 5S, SOP and OPL, and the application of Lean in office processes. In Module 2, participants worked on process mapping, standard work, visual management, production levelling (Heijunka), line balancing, work cells and the Just in Time principle. A separate session was a two-part practical robot assembly case.

Between the modules, companies worked on real operational challenges with the support of trainers and EBA coaches, including guidance on improvement plans and available financing options. By the end of the programme, 12 companies had prepared Lean implementation plans with defined priorities, responsible persons and indicators for follow-up. Each plan addresses specific processes within the company, from production flow and warehouse organisation to document handling and coordination on construction sites.

Participants rated the programme’s usefulness at 4.78 out of 5 on average. Some companies have already begun implementation: they introduced 5S, organised warehouse stock and set up channels for collecting employee suggestions.

One of the participating companies, Ribbon UA, reported that after redistributing responsibilities during roll loading, the operation now takes 5–7 minutes instead of 20–30. An employee’s suggestion to replace sensors also sped up rewinding by about 10%. According to company representative Anna Vilshanetska, improvements do not always require significant investment, and effective solutions often come from the people who do the work.

Khrystyna Fediuk, Progress-Service, shared the company’s experience: optimising production flow allowed the team to handle more orders with the same staff, reduce complaints and move to a five-day working week without night shifts. The programme also showed that Lean approaches are effective not only in manufacturing but also in services, including work with client documents and month-end closing processes.

The programme concluded with the event “AI × LEAN: How to Free Up to 70% of Senior Management’s Time”, featuring a presentation by Pavlo Fediuk, co-owner and CEO of Progress-Service. It was followed by an awards ceremony for graduates and a networking session, during which entrepreneurs discussed financing instruments, requirements and cooperation opportunities with representatives of banks.

The results presented reflect the companies’ own observations at an early stage of implementation. Their longer-term impact, including on order growth and job creation, will depend on how consistently businesses continue to apply the new practices.

The programme was implemented by the Western Ukrainian Office of the European Business Association in cooperation with UNIDO (UNIDO Project ID 220228).
