Amid the full-scale war, damage to production and energy infrastructure, and the large-scale needs of economic recovery, scrap metal is an important resource for the stable operation of Ukraine\u2019s steel industry.<\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">In 2025, Ukraine\u2019s exports of ferrous scrap increased by 53% compared with 2024, reaching 448.68 thousand tonnes. According to the business community, easing the current restrictions could lead to higher exports and a shortage of raw materials for Ukrainian producers.<\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">Domestic processing of scrap metal in Ukraine helps generate added value, support jobs and tax revenues, and provide raw materials for steel production and finished metal products. The use of scrap also contributes to lower energy consumption and CO\u2082 emissions in steel production, which is becoming increasingly important in the context of the EU\u2019s Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM).<\/p>\n<p>The Association calls for the ban on scrap metal exports to be extended into 2027.
