JTI Ukraine has developed an Inclusive Language Guide, a practical resource explaining how to speak in an environment where people have different experiences, roles and life circumstances. It aims to provide employees with a common basis for mindful communication.<\/p>\n
The guide was created as part of the \u201cOur People.Diverse\u201d programme. It follows up on the Company\u2019s efforts to develop an inclusive corporate culture that enables everyone to feel accepted, safe, and part of the team.<\/p>\n
The idea grew out of a practical need to put together, in one place, clear guidance for everyday communication in the office, at the factory, in the regions, or within the team. For the Company, inclusive language is a part of the workplace culture as it helps choose words more accurately and feel more comfortable in challenging or sensitive conversations.<\/p>\n
The guide explains the basic principles of inclusive language, offering practical examples of how to communicate correctly with service members, veterans, people with disabilities, people using wheelchairs or having prosthetic limbs, internally displaced persons or those who suffered losses or have had any other difficult experiences.<\/p>\n
JTI Ukraine has created a simple and clear resource that everyone can consult in real work situations at the office, at the factory, in the regions, or at home. The guide\u2019s role is to offer practical tips on how to communicate freely and more precisely without being afraid of offending anyone. Indeed, inclusive language starts from being careful and able to focus on the individual in front of you first and foremost, rather than their status or characteristics.<\/p>\n
The guide is published on paper so that people may hold it in their hands, leave it on their office desks, show it to a colleague, or take it home. The Company believes that its physical format helps keep the topic present in everyday communication and decisions.<\/p>\n
At JTI Ukraine, changes are already visible as employees pause more often before speaking, choose words more carefully and are more respectful of each other\u2019s experiences. This has an impact on the workplace climate, making the environment safer both for those who may be hurt by a careless word and those seeking to communicate correctly with their colleagues.<\/p>\n
For JTI, the Inclusive Language Guide is another step in building DEI culture. The Company wants inclusivity to be present in everyday life: in words, decisions and attitudes toward one another.<\/p>\n
