<\/span>\n\n\t<\/div>\n<\/div>\nRepresentatives of the European Business Association\u2019s Woodworking and Furniture Committee took part in a meeting of the Working Group on Cooperation in the Forest Industry under the State Agency of Forest Resources of Ukraine.<\/p>\n
During the meeting, participants discussed current issues affecting the timber market, improvements to timber sales mechanisms, regulatory developments, and ways to ensure stable operating conditions for companies in the wood processing industry.<\/p>\n
One of the key topics was compliance with timber delivery schedules by suppliers. Business representatives stressed the need to introduce effective liability mechanisms for failure to fulfil contractual obligations, as the timely supply of raw materials is critical to ensuring uninterrupted production.<\/p>\n
Participants also supported accelerating the use of Dutch auctions for the sale of timber that remains unsold after the main exchange auctions. This approach would enable timber resources to be brought into economic circulation more quickly and improve the efficiency of timber utilisation.<\/p>\n
Particular attention was also given to the export of wood products manufactured from wood waste. Businesses highlighted the importance of simplifying permit procedures and removing administrative barriers to facilitate exports of value-added wood products.<\/p>\n
Other agenda items included improving the methodology for setting starting prices for timber at exchange auctions, the current state of forest inventory and management planning, the impact of introducing close-to-nature forestry principles on timber harvesting volumes in the Carpathian region, and potential improvements to the mechanism for forming lots for forward auctions.<\/p>\n
In addition, participants considered the issue of outstanding receivables within the wood processing industry and discussed measures to strengthen payment discipline and minimise financial risks across the market.<\/p>\n
Following the meeting, participants agreed to continue their joint work on improving timber market regulation and further developing the initiatives discussed within the framework of the Working Group. The Association will continue to actively engage in dialogue with public authorities and all market stakeholders to promote transparent, predictable, and competitive conditions for the wood processing industry.<\/p>\n
