Representatives of the European Business Association took part in the roundtable discussion “Current Assessment, Challenges and Opportunities for Enhancing the Competitiveness of Ukraine’s Woodworking Industry”, organised by the World Bank in cooperation with unique land use GmbH, the Kyiv School of Economics, and IAK Agrar Consulting GmbH.<\/p>\n
The event brought together stakeholders to discuss the current state of the woodworking industry, trends in domestic and international markets, prospects for timber supply, and the regulatory and institutional factors affecting the sector’s competitiveness. Particular attention was given to assessing the industry’s investment potential and identifying priority areas for its further development.<\/p>\n
During the presentations, experts shared the findings of studies on the production and export potential of Ukraine’s woodworking industry, analysed supply and demand dynamics in the timber market, and outlined the sector’s key development trends. Considerable attention was also devoted to increasing value added within Ukraine and expanding modern manufacturing capacity.<\/p>\n
A separate part of the discussion focused on the current regulatory framework and institutional environment. Participants stressed the importance of creating a predictable business environment, improving access to raw materials, and attracting investment needed to modernise production and introduce innovative technologies.<\/p>\n
The roundtable also explored proposals aimed at unlocking the industry’s potential. Experts discussed the key prerequisites for implementing these initiatives, regional aspects of the woodworking industry’s development, and potential sources of financing for future projects. This comprehensive approach contributes to shaping a long-term vision for the sector’s development and its role in Ukraine’s economic recovery.<\/p>\n
The discussion will contribute to the development of practical recommendations for improving public policy and the regulatory framework governing the woodworking industry. The proposed measures are expected to facilitate investment, promote the production of high-value-added products, and strengthen the international competitiveness of Ukrainian manufacturers.<\/p>\n
The outcomes of the roundtable will form part of the World Bank’s analytical work aimed at identifying opportunities for the recovery and long-term development of Ukraine’s woodworking industry. The resulting recommendations are expected to support policymakers and the business community in developing effective solutions to enhance the sector’s competitiveness, boost exports, and foster sustainable economic growth.<\/p>\n
