<\/span>\n\n\t<\/div>\n<\/div>\nOn May 26, the event \u201cAccessibility in the Cultural Space: From Access to Inclusion\u201d took place at the National Museum of the History of Ukraine in the Second World War as part of the National Accessibility Week. The event was held with the support of the Ministry of Culture of Ukraine and became part of the nationwide social change campaign \u201cAccessibility Means Opportunity\u201d, implemented within the framework of First Lady Olena Zelenska\u2019s<\/strong> \u201cWithout Barriers\u201d initiative.<\/p>\nAlyona Lebedka<\/strong>, Accessibility Expert at the European Business Association, joined the panel discussion. Together with Lesya Khemraieva<\/strong>, Head of the Department for Accessibility Policy, Gender Equality and Mental Health at the Ministry of Culture of Ukraine, participants discussed the importance of creating an accessible cultural environment, the role of business in implementing the National Accessibility Strategy, and the significance of accessibility policies as practical roadmaps for change.<\/p>\nThe event was opened by Yurii Savchuk<\/strong>, Director of the National Museum of the History of Ukraine in the Second World War, and Anastasiia Bondar<\/strong>, Deputy Minister of Culture and Strategic Communications of Ukraine for Digital Development, Digital Transformation and Digitalization.<\/p>\nSpecial attention during the discussion was given to barrier-free communication. After all, culture begins with words \u2014 with respectful, non-stigmatizing, and trauma-informed interaction that fosters a sense of inclusion and respect for every individual.<\/p>\n
As part of the event, an exhibition of posters about barrier-free language was also presented \u2014 an art initiative by Ukrainian artists exploring how words influence our perception of people and the environment around us. The exhibition reminds us of the importance of seeing the person first, rather than focusing solely on a particular trait or characteristic.<\/p>\n
The European Business Association actively contributes to the development of an accessibility culture in Ukraine. Currently, the Association is conducting a survey within the Accessibility Index initiative and will soon launch a new programme in this area.<\/p>\n
