The initiative aims to establish transparent oversight of imports into the European Union of products linked to deforestation, in particular, timber and timber-based goods.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"556\" data-end=\"736\">This matter is of particular relevance to the Woodworking and Furniture Industry Committee, as the new rules will directly impact Ukrainian exporters targeting the European market.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"738\" data-end=\"987\">Under the Regulation, EU importers will be required to carry out thorough due diligence before placing relevant products on the market. This means Ukrainian companies must be prepared to provide a full package of supporting documentation, including:<\/p>\n<ul data-start=\"989\" data-end=\"1355\">\n<li class=\"\" data-start=\"989\" data-end=\"1035\">\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"991\" data-end=\"1035\">the scientific name of the timber species;<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"\" data-start=\"1036\" data-end=\"1063\">\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"1038\" data-end=\"1063\">the country of harvest;<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"\" data-start=\"1064\" data-end=\"1122\">\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"1066\" data-end=\"1122\">the geolocation (coordinates) of the harvesting sites;<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"\" data-start=\"1123\" data-end=\"1165\">\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"1125\" data-end=\"1165\">the date or time range of the harvest;<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"\" data-start=\"1166\" data-end=\"1272\">\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"1168\" data-end=\"1272\">proof of compliance with the laws of the country of origin regarding timber harvesting and processing;<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"\" data-start=\"1273\" data-end=\"1355\">\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"1275\" data-end=\"1355\">evidence that no deforestation or forest degradation occurred during harvesting.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"1357\" data-end=\"1821\">During the meeting, Yurii Andriiev, Committee Manager at the EBA, emphasised the importance of establishing a constructive dialogue with Ukrainian woodworking and furniture companies. He stressed that it is essential to consider the positions of all stakeholders in order to mitigate potential risks associated with non-compliance, such as refusal of goods by buyers, delays at border checkpoints, additional storage costs, or even the return of shipments.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"1823\" data-end=\"2034\">Given the export-oriented nature of Ukraine\u2019s woodworking sector, the EBA underscores the importance of developing effective solutions to ensure uninterrupted trade flows and maintain economic stability.<\/p>\n<p><\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Representatives of the Woodworking and Furniture Committee took part in the inaugural meeting of the working group dedicated to implementing EU Regulation 2023\/1115 (EUDR) on preventing deforestation and forest degradation.
