Renewable energy has already proven to be a catalyst for change, creating new opportunities for sustainable development in Ukraine. The year 2025 promises to be a breakthrough year for innovation, development of energy storage technologies and the digital transformation of the energy sector.<\/p>\n

Let\u2019s look at the key <\/strong>trends in renewable energy<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n

1) Hydrogen energy <\/strong>\u2014<\/strong> the foreseeable future<\/strong><\/p>\n

Hydrogen is not merely a passing trend; it is a strategic tool in the transition to a low-carbon economy. As an energy carrier, it can provide clean energy for transportation, industry and even households.<\/p>\n

Ukraine has an ambitious plan to become a hydrogen hub in Europe by 2050. The hydrogen strategy envisions the production of green hydrogen from renewable sources, its transportation to the EU, and the creation of the relevant infrastructure. This is not just an environmental choice, but also a significant economic opportunity for the country (1).<\/p>\n

2) A revolution <\/strong>in energy storage<\/strong><\/p>\n

Energy storage systems are essential for ensuring the stability and efficiency of renewable energy. Ukraine is witnessing a significant development in this sector, with legislative initiatives playing a pivotal role. Notably, the adoption of the Law on the Development of Energy Storage Installations has established the legal framework for the advancement of this technology (2).<\/p>\n

Additionally, the 2024 amendments to the Distribution Systems Code have introduced new opportunities for consumers, allowing them to both install generating units for their own consumption and sell excess electricity (3), contributing to the advancement of energy decentralization.<\/p>\n

3) Digitalization: Smart Grid and smart technologies<\/strong><\/p>\n

The digitalization of the energy sector is no longer a distant prospect, it is happening right now. Smart Grids automate the supply and distribution of electricity, reducing losses and empowering consumers by engaging them in energy management.<\/p>\n

Digital solutions can facilitate the integration of renewable energy sources, enhance the resilience of the power grid and optimize its operation. Smart meters serve as a prime example of such solutions, offering precise electricity consumption measurement, loss reduction, and enhanced resource efficiency.<\/p>\n

4) Integration of renewable sources into the grid<\/strong><\/p>\n

The development of green energy in Ukraine is gaining momentum. In the first half of 2024, the share of renewable sources in the country\u2019s overall energy balance reached 9.8% (4). This was made possible by active investments in solar, wind, and bioenergy.<\/p>\n

In particular, DTEK is investing 450 million euros in the construction of the Tiligulska wind farm, and in 2025 plans to launch the second phase of the project, which will add another 500 MW of capacity. This confirms Ukraine\u2019s status as a regional leader in renewable energy (5).<\/p>\n
