On 20 February, the Energy Committee of the Association held a meeting with Danylo Hetmantsev, Chair of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Finance, Tax and Customs Policy, Andriy Gerus, Chair of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Energy and Housing and Utilities Services, and representatives of the Ministry of Finance. The discussion focused on the necessity of adopting Law No. 11455, which proposes an exemption from import duties for wind power generation units (code 8502 31 00 00 under the Ukrainian Classification of Goods for Foreign Economic Activity).<\/p>\n
The European Business Association supports this law, as its adoption would help reduce the cost of wind power generation units, make them more affordable, and accelerate the restoration and expansion of wind energy capacity.<\/p>\n
Business representatives highlighted that due to the specific nature and technology of wind farm construction, such facilities are decentralised energy infrastructure. The distance between wind turbines within a single wind farm is typically at least 800 metres. This makes them a more complex and resource-intensive target for enemy attacks. For instance, the loss of a single wind turbine results in a capacity loss of up to 8 MW, whereas damage to a single thermal power plant can lead to the loss of 200 MW or more. Therefore, scaling up wind energy in Ukraine will help reduce dependence on traditional energy sources, which are more vulnerable to external attacks, and contribute to the stabilisation of the country\u2019s energy supply.<\/p>\n
As a result of the meeting, the parties agreed to continue working on the adoption of the law.<\/p>\n
