Currently, information on the reserves and resources of many mineral deposits in Ukraine is restricted under the classifications “secret” or “for official use only.” This includes data on deposits of diamonds, gold, lithium, titanium, platinum, and other strategic materials.<\/p>\n
According to experts from the Subsoil Use Committee of the European Business Association, such legal restrictions hinder the signing of international agreements in the subsoil use sector and complicate cooperation with strategic partners.<\/p>\n
Maintaining the “secret” status for balance reserves and resources may restrain their development and reduce investor interest. This is particularly critical in a situation where Ukraine lacks the necessary capital and modern technologies.<\/p>\n
Association experts emphasize the importance of access to information, citing the experience of other countries. For example, the U.S. Geological Survey regularly publishes data on available mineral reserves, while the European Union provides an open platform, the “Raw Materials Information System,” with information on critical raw materials.<\/p>\n
Lifting restrictions on geological information is especially relevant in the context of implementing the Ukraine Facility program and strategic partnership with the EU in the raw materials sector. The business community is convinced that removing classification restrictions on this data will help attract private investments into the extraction and processing industries without compromising Ukraine\u2019s national security.<\/p>\n
The European Business Association has reached out to the Government, urging it to facilitate the removal of these classifications and has provided its proposals. We hope that the business community’s position will be taken into account and that a transparent dialogue will take place.<\/p>\n
